I’m looking to buy a dehumidifier for my apartment. Any tips on which on to buy?
Quite, inexpensive, one that doesn’t take up too much space. The soleus air has gotten the best reviews, but has also gotten some of the worst. Anyone have personal experience with this one?

Would it be wise to buy a dehumidifier and use it while the Air Conditioner is on?
Now that it’s summer, my apartment has been very humid. I’ve been using the Air Conditioner to cool my apartment. Unfortunately, the humidity is still there while the AC is running.
So my question is, would it be wise to use a dehumidifier while the AC is running at the same time.
Thanks.
P.S. Since I live in an apartment, my air conditioner is the type of air conditioner that’s on the wall.

Hi, I’m in property development so often use dehumidifiers.
The more efficient dehumidifiers are designed for commercial use but you will find these are fairly bulky, loud and (as a previous answer stated) can be fairly expensive to run. I think a better option (if you will be using it regularly) is to find a dehumidifier that has been designed for the home but is slightly more attractive and concentrated (as in area/floor space). Is it your whole house that is damp or just a certain area? If it’s just a certain area (which I suspect it is) try and contain it by reducing air flow in and out of the room and install a smaller more attractive unit.
If you’re in the UK, I regularly use 4air which is a small company who sell to the trade and I assume homeowners too. I’m sure they will give you some good advice on an attractive unit that will get the job done. I always love a bit of a haggle too and they tend to be relaxed about it.
Try and get the area (m2) or even better the volume (m3) before you speak to them so they can narrow down the units with the power required.

Think I need to buy a dehumidifier- Do I need one for each room?
As in previous posting – I have condensation and mildew on my double glazing in most rooms. One particular room I do have some mildew on the wall too but it is upstairs and only on outside wall. My question is – do I need to buy a dehumidifier for each room ? Thank you in advance
Further details – I live in a two up two down terrace house – so not too big

What’s the best place to buy a basement dehumidifier?
Are the dehumidifiers at Home Depot or Lowe’s better? Which one is less expensive? My basement is 37′ X 25′. Which size should I buy?
Would a unit with a greater pints-per-day rating be more efficient?

Why not call a local HVAC company who does industrial work? They can easily provide you with the info you need.

I need to buy a Dehumidifier for my home in New England, any recommendations?
I recently moved to New England and have a house outside of Boston. The basement is dry, but you can definetly feel the humidity especially on those snowy/rainy days. I would like to get a dehumidifier, and have seen price ranges that run the gammit from cheap to super expensive. Curious what peoples experiences have been with both the smaller/portable units and the larger/whole house units. Thanks.

Dehumidifier buy now or later?
I want to buy a dehumidifier and place it in the hallway and open the doors to 3 bedroom that have people in them mainly myself, parents and brothers all the rooms always gather mold in the winter times(I think because we turn the heat off until it hits 59 Fahrenheit or 15 Celsius…gas is expensive)
so we turn on electric heaters sometimes the mold is always near the windows which are almost always covered with water and ice.
Should I wait until winter or pick one up now cause it might be cheaper? its about $200 plus we all painted the rooms and cleaned the mold. Where is the best place for one?
Please help

You may want to call the local heath department and your local attorney generals office. Mildew is hazardous to your health, and Most of not all landlords should know this, why do you think they have air exchangers in underground garages?
I’m a landlord, and it wouldn’t be asking too much if a resident had asked me for one, I wouldn’t have to go through the cost of marketing the apartment and turning costs, I made a resident happy and they will stay until the end of their lease, and may renew in the end.
I would call around then ask if they would purchase one for you, however they probably won’t pay for the electrical costs.
I hope this helps, and this is what I would do for a resident.

I bought mime at Walmart. It is a 50pint. I put it in my basement. It works very well. I have a very moist basement. I don’t name the name of the brand off the top of me head. It is a smaller portable unit with a drain hose that I can have go directly to my sump pump. I only spent a little over a $100 for my unit and have had no complaints. My husband used the same brand unit up where he works. He only used 2 of them in a big open factory building and it worked really well. Unless you have major water/moisture issues or have a gigantic basement the portable units should be fine.

Dehumidifers seem to stay about the same price all year long. You would have to get a 60 pint or higher ( don’t know if they go higher then 60 ) That means it can take out up to 60 pints of water within a certain period of time. You would also have to leave bedroom doors open all the time, no privacy. You can set it to run two hours or four hours at a time .Once you set it , it automatically comes on and off. It will help some but with no heat most of the time I’m not sure how it will do. Mold is very dangerous to be breathing in.I would run a little more heat.

You do not need one in every room, a dehumidifier on each level should be sufficient. You need to cure the underlying problem though. You have too much moisture in your house. Run bathroom and kitchen fan vents for at least 20 min. after bathing or cooking. This will help. If you have a lot of live plants, consider removing them or replace with silk plants, as this will add a considerable amount of moisture into the air. A fish tank will also contribute.
The mold on the exterior wall would indicate another issue. Somewhere, moisture is either in the wall, causing the mold growth. This issue will need to be resolved prior to the problem going away.
Feel free to email me with any other questions you may have
